John 20:29-31 (NKJV)
29 Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed.Blessed [are] those who have not seen and [yet] have believed.” 30 And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
One of the things that my Bible teachers would say is “Let the Bible interpret the Bible”. A good example is found here in John 20 where the writer clearly states the purpose for which this book was written; “that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ…”. You can’t get any more clear than that. That’s a good reason that, when you encounter someone who does not believes in Jesus, and doesn’t want to listen to reason, just tell them to read the book. The Bible will explain itself, with the help of the Holy Spirit, if you just read it. There are many examples of intellectuals just as C.S. Lewis who became believers after studying the Bible, even though there were reading it in order to disprove it! So let the Bible speak for itself and encourage everyone to read it.
