 Jesus the Overcomer

John 16:33 (NKJV) 

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I haveovercome the world.”

Jesus is a peacemaker and an overcomer. But this does not mean that we will not have problems in this world. So what kind of peace is this then, if it doesn’t result in the end of all conflict? This is another one off the mysteries of the gospel. We can overcome the world and have peace in Jesus, all the while going through trouble and tribulation. That seems to be a contradiction and offends our desire for a tranquil life. What Chamberlain called “Peace in our time”, when dealing with Hitler prior to World War II. Chamberlain sought peace in a lack of conflict, but Churchill led his nation into war to overcome the evil. In the same way, Jesus brings us peace, but it may involve conflict with the world in order to overcome the evil we encounter there. So take heart. Jesus is the overcomer and will bring us peace despite any tribulation that we may face in this world.
