The Blessing

 The Blessing

Numbers 6:22-27

Aaron’s Benediction

22 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 23 “Speak to Aaron and to his sons, saying, ‘Thus you shall bless the sons of Israel. You shall say to them:

24 The LORD bless you, and keep you;

25 The LORD make His face shine on you,

And be gracious to you;

26 The LORD lift up His countenance on you,

And give you peace.’

27 So they shall invoke My name on the sons of Israel, and I then will bless them.”

This is the model blessing that was given to Aaron to bless the people,  it is a true Biblical blessing. Do will still understand what a true blessing is?  We casually say “God bless you” whenever someone sneezes, but we seem to have forgotten the true meaning of a Biblical blessing. A Biblical blessing calls out the purpose that the Lord has planned for a person and supplies the provision to enable you to fulfill that purpose.

The Lord bless you, and keep you;

May the Lord keep you from all harm, protect you from your enemies, keep you from disease and bless you with all you need.

The Lord make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you;

May His unmerited favor be on you to bless your plans and give you His blessing for all you do.

The Lord lift up His countenance on you;

May the Lord’s presence be with you to encourage you, to sustain you and to lead and guide you, to be with you wherever you go.

And give you peace (shalom).

The Hebrew “shalom” is more than just peace in the sense of lack of conflict. It is also prosperity,j completeness, welfare and soundness. The Lord’s shalom will give you confidence and assurance in every circumstance, knowing that you are not alone.

Such a blessing will encourage you, speak the truth about your purpose, and give you all that you need to succeed. Your part is to be obedient to the voice of the Lord and do all that is required of you to fulfill your destiny. If you do, the Lord’s blessing will be upon you and He will give you peace. Shalom.
