Psalm 81:1-3 (NKJV) 

1 To the Chief Musician. On an instrument of Gath. [A Psalm] of Asaph. Sing aloud to God our strength; Make a joyful shout to the God of Jacob. 2 Raise a song and strike the timbrel, The pleasant harp with the lute. 3 Blow the trumpet at the time of the New Moon, At the full moon, on our solemn feast day.

Leviticus 23:24 (NKJV) 

“Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘In the seventh month, on the first [day] of the month, you shall have a sabbath-[rest,] a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.

23:27  “Also the tenth [day] of this seventh month [shall be] the Day of Atonement. It shall be a holy convocation for you; you shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire to the LORD.

23:34 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘The fifteenth day of this seventh month [shall be] the Feast of Tabernacles [for] seven days to the LORD.

Today begins the fall holy days on the Hebrew calendar. The feast of trumpets (Rosh Hoshanah) is celebrated as New Years Day by modern Jews, then the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) and the feast of booths come later. The new year was celebrated in the spring on the ancient Hebrew calendar and the major events of Jesus’ life occurred on the spring feast days. He was hung on the cross on Passover; raised from the dead on First Fruits, and the Holy Spirit was given on Pentecost. That leads us to wonder what significance the fall feasts days have for Christians. There are signs in the New Testament that they could be significant. For example, in first Thessalonians, Paul tells us that Jesus will come again with a shout and the sound of a trumpet:

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (NKJV) 

16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.

No one knows the day or the hour, but the Feast of Trumpets reminds us to be ready, to be listening for the sound of the last trumpet, watching for the coming of King Jesus.

1 Corinthians 15:51-53 (NKJV) 

51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed-- 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal [must] put on immortality.
